February 5 - On to Kauai

Yeah, I know.  I've already posted some of this on February 6.  But that was only a brief update to let you know we're still alive.  Now that we are settled into our motel room listening to the rain dripping off the metal roofs of the neighboring buildings and hot rods roaring down the street and the sweet hum of the internet, I can send out more photos.

We flew to Kauai via Honolulu.  There's Diamond Head right outside our window.  We'll be back here in a couple weeks.  By the way, I know everyone loves pictures from airplane windows, so if you want more, just ask.  I've got more ... lots more.

We landed in Lihue, got our car, booked four nights of camping at the community center (just showing up at a campground to tent for the night doesn't work - you either have to book online and print out your form, or go to one of four county offices on the island that issue permits.  They're hard-to-find places that are open at spotty hours.  But if you don't get a permit, it can be a $100 fine, and the rangers check your tag at dusk and dawn.  It's a little creepy when they tromp up to your tent and shine a flashlight on your tag), and drove out to the beach campground.  I already showed you moonrise that night.
