January 31 - Our last day as a threesome

Today was Amy's last day, so before sending her off to her snow-covered car waiting at the Columbus airport, we had one final nice day in Hawaii together.

We started off enjoying the lanai of our Airbnb in the morning,

Saffron finches

and anole lizards on a papaya tree in the back (oceanside) yard.

Then we drove north to Hapuna Beach for a swim.

Diana - This is your wave, Amy.
Amy - No, you take it.

OK!

Me in my birthday suit. (Those of you who followed our Tripdownunder blog might remember that I got this bathing suit in Australia for my 60th birthday.)

I've been thinking of getting a tattoo while I'm here.  What do you think of this one?

The drive along the coast travels through some ferocious lava fields.

Somehow these wild goats flourish here.

View of the ocean.

The 112 mile bike portion of the Hawaii Ironman competition travels along this coastal route.  The race is held in October, but on this Saturday there were many cyclists banging down the road.

After the beach we went back to the Airbnb for showers and fresh clothes, then took a tour of the Kona Brewery.  I've been enjoying their Castaway IPA while on the islands.

We ate pizza at their restaurant.  Tasty!

Amy's plane didn't leave until 8:30 pm, so we drove down to a beach near the airport where she could enjoy one final Hawaiian sunset.

There have been big swells from the west all week, so we were never able to kayak like we had hoped.  But, it did make for great body surfing, and some impressive splashes when the waves hit the lava.

Diana dances to some reggae music playing from the truck of a local family parked at the beach.

Waxing Pacific moon.

We've had a great time together.

See you in Montana in March!
