February 8 - Birds on the Beach

Coffee and cereal on Hanalei Beach to fairly decent views:

 Mynah birds on the beach.

Cattle egret on the pier.  Can you see him?

"But the guide book said this is a good place to snorkel."

Not something you see every day.  This woman was exercising her pet Galah, a type of cockatoo from Australia we saw a lot when we were there, but did not expect to see in Hawaii.

Here is a photo I took Downunder.  They are very gregarious birds, and her pet nestled like a kitten in the her hand when it finished with it's exercise.

We saw gannetts soaring from an overlook near Kilauea lighthouse.

A Nene Goose, the state bird of Hawaii.  They are believed to have evolved from an errant Canada Goose (or two) that was blown to the islands half a million years ago.  It wasn't the last time visitors from chilly climes came to Hawaii and decided to no to go back home.
Don't worry, we plan to return ... probably.

  2. I thought the skin photo was of Kevin getting in touch with his feminine side. The islands have that effect. Funny, sometimes not all the photos open up. What happens if I tell the blog that I am a computer? Will I be transported to a digital Kauai?

    1. I don't know what the photo opening problem is. Does anyone else out there have the same problem?

And, do you suppose computers dream of Hawaii? Or are they never-sleeping entities quietly plotting our overthrow?
